Paul Walsh - Chief Executive Director CUNA Mutual Europe

Prior to joining CUNA Mutual Paul had been Commercial Director for Insurance at Barclays. Paul was one of the principle drivers behind the fundamental repositioning of Barclays as a major Insurance business in the UK. In 2006, under Paul stewardship, Barclays became Britain’s largest acquirer of Home Insurance and one of the largest Insurance Brands in the UK. Paul joined Barclays in from the Gulf Bank Group where he was General Manager for Retail Banking. Paul has extensive experience in Financial Services, Customer Research, Marketing and Sales.

Paul, a native of Dublin graduated from Dublin City University with a Business Studies Degree and did his postgraduate studies at Durham University in England.

He commenced his management career in 1986 as the Marketing and Distribution Executive, establishing the Irish National Lottery. Paul moved into Brand Marketing and onto Sales and Marketing Director roles in the 90s for major European and International retail and food manufacturing companies with assignments in the Middle East, mainland Europe and Ireland.

In 1998 Paul joined Gulf Bank Group where he became GM - Head of Retail Banking, leading the Retail Bank through a fundamental repositioning and onto its strongest market share and revenue growth in the Banks history. When he left the Bank for Barclays in 2004, Gulf Bank ranked as one of the top 5 Banks in the Middle East and by financial strength and awarded as the 'Best Bank in the Middle East' by industry professionals.

In 2004 Paul joined Barclays Bank as Commercial Director for its Insurance businesses. He steered the Banks Insurance business through a period of fundamental change, leading to Barclays becoming the UK's largest acquiring Brand of personal lines insurances in 2006. Following a period of substantial financial success at Barclays Paul returned to Ireland in 2007 to lead CUNA Mutual's European business.
