CUNA Mutual Group Supports the UK Development Education Programme

Birmingham, 7 October 2009

CUNA Mutual is delighted to continue supporting the UK Development Education Programme for the 6th year running. The International development education programme fits with CUNA Mutual’s objectives to support the growth of Credit Unions worldwide.

Since the launch of the UK programme in 2004, over 180 participants from all over the globe have graduated.

Marlene Shiels, Programme Director said “The DEUK Programme is one of the most important Credit Union educational courses in the UK Credit Union Calendar.  This programme provides students with the ability to learn more about how to develop credit unions of all shapes and sizes, and also provides access to world-class speakers from all parts of the British and International credit union system.  After 5 very intensive learning days graduates are ready to become ambassadors for credit unions and ready to communicate how credit unions can be part of and help develop all parts of the community.  Furthermore, on graduation, students gain access to like-minded Development Educators who have graduated from programmes in the USA, Australia, Asia and the Philippines, of which there are over 1,000 active DE’s at this time.

DEUK is now looking forward to its 7th year.  With over 180 graduates from around the world in the first six years, much of the success of the programme can be directly attributed to its constant supporters including CUNA Mutual Europe. CMG Europe has supported over 18 graduates to attend all six of the programmes to date and continues to provide support for Development Education not only in the UK but beyond.   2010 will see CMG continue to support; not only of the DEUK programme, but enabling graduates to attend other Credit Union Development Education programmes around the world to continue their learning and development of credit unions.”

CUNA Mutual Group extends our congratulations and thanks to the 2009 graduates
